We are obsessed with the rustic look and high fragrance of our dough bowl candles and so is everyone else.
I thought we would do a tutorial on how we make them.

Our 16 oz. Dough bowl candle has been a best seller recently. It is easy to see why. It starts with rough hewn wood and natural soy wax and is enhanced by our 10% fragrance load of clean scent technology.
Once we package our dough bowls with farmhouse ribbons and cellophan, they are irresistible.
Lets see how it’s done.

1. We prepare our dough bowl by wiping clean with damp rag. This removes any loose wood. We also check bowl for cracks or weak points.

2. We select correct wick size (LX22) and place wicks with glue. Distance of our 3 wick dough bowl must be measured.

3. We use 444 Soy wax and heat to 185 degrees using a double boiler. ( Never heat wax directly it will burn).

4. We measure our fragrance according to a 10% fragrance load which is the highest advisable load for a candle. Magnolia & Willows loves Candle Science and uses this supplier for most of our fragrance oils. This company avoids prop 65 ingredients in their products.

5. Fragrance oil is mixed into 444 soy wax for roughly 2-3 minutes. This incorporates the fragrance throughout the wax. Oil never binds into the wax so it is important to spread the molecules out.
6. Mixture is poured into our dough bowl that is already prepared and placed on a safe surface.
7. This dough bowl will be solid within 2 hours, but every candle should cure for roughly 2 weeks( for soy wax). That is how long it takes for candle to settle on a molecular level. Then good candlemakers start testing before the product ever goes to market.
We have previously performed these steps so we will continue to packaging.
8. Wicks are trimmed to about 1/3” for shipping. Customer should trim to 1/4” before lighting.
Warning sticker is placed on bottom of candle per U.S. law and label is attached which states size, maker and fragrance.

9. This dough bowl will be decorated with twine, Bee ribbon twill tape, Gold Bee wrapping paper prior to shipping to our eager customer.
