I want to let you in on one of my best kept secrets; How I label my products.
I am an Amazon and Etsy Affiliate which means some of these products may pay me for advertising at no cost to you, but please know I only include products I use regularly and love.
We all know product packaging can make or break a sale for your small business.
Just by adding a beautiful design you can increase brand recognition, revenue and those coveted followers on social media.
I know what your thinking “ I don’t have a fancy camera, I don’t have any models and I really don’t have time to get a graphic design degree”.
I’m here to tell you that you don’t need those things. We get nothing but complements on our fresh package designs and we only spend about $20 a month to label all of our products.
We use Adobe Express to create our labels. This free app has every size and font you need to design a custom label for any product. They actually have every size for any business need.
Instagram ads, Blog pictures, 8 x 10 fliers and even post cards.
We aren’t affiliated with Adobe Express (yet! Lol), we just love this program.
Choose the size and template you like, remix it, add your logo and you're done.
Adobe has another amazing feature. Stock Photos that are free!
Let’s say you want to label your products like candy. You can choose 1” by 1” template and add your pictures. But what if your pictures just aren’t good enough? Adobe Stock photos to the rescue! Simply search in Adobe for candy and their options for professional quality photos are endless and ready to use.
Adobe Express is easy and fun.
Now for more serious legal stuff. Adobe does it’s best to only include common community photos. Which means the pictures you see and use are for everyone to use and free.
But it’s important to verify these photos aren’t owned by an artist, so before you print off a thousand labels reverse search the image to make sure there’s nothing attached to the image.
Just google reverse search and google will ask you to upload photo and it will show you every time photo has been used and its owner, if there is one.
I have never had an issue with a photo I’ve used, but I always check to make sure a photographer or artist doesn’t need royalties or payment for their image.
Update- After speaking with Adobe I have found out they back every photo in their program as common use. You can create without limitations!
Printing
You’ve made a beautiful label using Adobe and have sized it to 1” x 1” square. Congratulations, the hard part is over!
Now we need to get it on your products.
This part is easy too. We measure our product let’s say our candy is 6” by 6” bag. We decide we want the label to take up half of the bag, so we need 3” square labels.
Use Avery printing paper and program at Avery.com. Purchase the 3” labels you want to use, load them into printer and upload your Adobe design into Avery.
We love Avery because they take that design and template it onto the stickers you purchased, and it fits perfect.
Print them babies out and put them on your products. That is it in a nutshell.
You now have labeled products for only the cost of Avery paper (about $15).

There are some legal requirements for labeling products for sale. I am not an expert, or a legal advisor so don’t take my word for it, but….
The U.S. requires bath and beauty products to be labeled with all ingredients starting with the most first example- Beeswax, Shea Butter, fragrance.
These products also require the maker and location of production be included on package.

You can easily see location, maker, size and ingredients. These are required by law.
And here is an ad for our ChapStick, both the labels and ad were created with Adobe Express.
Candle labels have different requirements.
U.S. consumer laws require the warning label states these items in this specific order.
Candles are also required to list weight in imperial and metric on the lower 1/3 of candle label.
And the words must be visible and legible.
It is easier than ever in this day to make and sell items. Apps like Adobe coupled with Avery printing and selling platforms put the power of sales into anybody's hands.
