Feed Sack bloomers
I am so excited for this…
Things that never were in the American Girl universe.
Kit, a 10 year old girl, is so ashamed of the feed sack bloomers her Aunt Millie makes her. In the Great Depression everything that came into a home was reused again and again to save money.
Things like paper from envelopes, string, rubber bands, car tires were repurposed into shopping list paper, soles for shoes, ties to hold up pants…
Feed sacks were used to make dresses or in this case bloomers for a growing child.
As soon as I saw this illustration in Happy Birthday Kit! I knew we had to make ‘em.
Here Addy is the proud owner of a seamstress shop carrying on the skills her Mother taught her and Miss Kit is modeling our version of Feed Sack Bloomers.
(Pray for me, I’m going to try to paint a feed sack logo on these later without using harsh chemicals!)
