I don’t know about you, but it seems like every time I reach into the Tupperware cabinet I am entering a vast unknown.
Will there be Tupperware? Will there be lids? I never know. I swear there must be little house elves that eat socks in the dryer and steal Tupperware lids from the cabinets.

I have been on a little bit of a zero-waste journey for about 10 years now. One reason is that I love nature and I don’t want to impact it negatively. But another reason for my zero-waste journey is that I don’t like to spend money! I want to use my money on things that bring me joy or make life sparkle, not waste money on things that are common.
One of the first things I stopped using was Saran Wrap, Ziplock bags and Aluminum foil. They just seem like a waste to me. Get foil out, cut foil, put on container, later remove from container and discard. At $3 a roll, just to throw away, is not in my mind. I’d rather have that $3 for a pretty Pyrex bowl with a cute matching fabric lid!

Today I want to show you how we make them, for anyone would has extra fabric around or is looking for an Adult Craft.

The fabric for this project is from Susan Winget and it’s called Bee Happy. You can order it here.
Here are the steps to make your own bowl cover.
Lay paper flat on table. Place bowl you want covered upside on paper.
2. Trace bowl shape onto paper. Add 2” to diameter by drawing a second line 2” out from the first line.
3. Cut out the larger circle with scissors.
4. Lay fabric down on table with fabric folded in half so there are two layers. The
back of fabric (no design) should be in middle of fold like shown.
5. Place circle of paper on fabric and pin so the paper circle doesn’t move. ( We are making a set of three so we have 3 circles in this picture.)
6. Carefully cut around paper. Then remove pins from fabric. Set paper “patterns” aside.
7. Pin the circle together with right side of fabric facing inward.
8. Sew a 1/4” seam around circle leaving a 2” gap to turn fabric.
9. Turn fabric so pattern is facing outward. Iron fabric flat.
10. Go back to sewing machine and sew a complete circle 2” inside of fabric.
11. Measure elastic by running it around rim of bowl and cutting where the ends meet.
12. Run elastic through channel we created in the fabric.
13. Sew elastic edges together.
14. Sew a 1/4” seam all the way around the fabric to seal our gap.
There you have it, a masterpiece at your own hands. This functional linen is sure to save you money and bring joy to your home. It’s perfectly reusable and giftable.
